Personal Vocabulary for Lit Circles

Purpose: While you are reading your Lit Circle book, you need to create your own Personal Vocabulary Sheet. The goal of the sheet is for you to increase your vocabulary by learning new words that interest you.

Grade: Your grade on this assignment depends on the number of words you add to your sheet.

  • Two words before each meeting (10 total words) = C
  • Three words before each meeting (15 total words) = B
  • Four words before each meeting (20 total words) = A

Requirements: Keep track of your words on a sheet of binder paper. Your Personal Vocabulary Sheet must include the following:

  • the word
  • the page number where you found it
  • a possible definition
  • the correct dictionary definition
  • a sentence of your own that demonstrates your understanding of the word and how to use it correctly

Sentence: Maijue lived in a refugee camp in Thailand after crossing the Mekong River.
